Iranian Film "A Separation" Receives Two Oscar Nominations

A Separation, the acclaimed film by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, has been nominated in two Oscar categories: Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. The other films competing in the best foreign language film category are Belgium’s Bullhead, Israel’s Footnote, Poland’s In Darkness, and Canada’s Monsieur Lazhar. In the original screenplay category, A Separation is up against Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist, Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids, J.C. Chandor’s Margin Call and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. A Separation has already won the Golden Globe Award for best foreign film and is favoured to win the Oscar in the same category. If it does, A Separation will become the first Iranian film to win an Oscar. Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and The Artist have swept the Oscar nominations in 11 and 10 categories respectively. The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on February 26 in Los Angeles, hosted by Billy Crystal.
